Can you find love in the 8th grade?

Karmela Answers:

Dear Bonquesia,

Ahhh, the age-old question: how young is TOO young to be in love?

The answer? Only you know.

That Fluttery Feeling

I was about your age when I fell in love for the first time too. It was great – that fluttery feeling each time he walked by, how my insides felt like mush when he talked to me, and how I felt like my body was being dropped in boiling oil every time he looked at me. He made me feel like I was the most beautiful, special person on the planet. And yes, looking back, I completely believe that I was, in fact, in love. At 14.

Yes, but it's a different kind of love than what she will feel when she is older.

So if you have strong feelings for him, you need to do some serious soul-searching. If you THINK you love him, then you probably do.

Why Is He with His Girlfriend?

Catalina And as long as he is with his girlfriend, she should stay away.

As for Andre, have you tried talking to him? If he claims that he is in love with you, then why is he still with his girlfriend? If he is confused about his feelings, it's completely understandable. But he should do his best not to be leading on anyone who's in the picture.

Annie She shouldn't bother. If they get together, he would treat her the way he treats his girlfriend now.

Talk to him, and ask him why he can't be with you now if he's in love with you. It may be something as simple as not wanting to hurt Jennika's feelings, but whatever it is, you have the right to know.

Your Boyfriend Has the Right To Know

Judith I agree – neither of them is practicing integrity.

While we're on the subject of the "significant other", don't you think that you should tell your boyfriend that you have feelings for someone else? He deserves to know, just like you deserve to know what's up with Andre. Tell him the whole story, and explain to him how confused you are. Maybe he'll understand and be willing to wait for you to figure it out; then again, maybe he won't. It's a chance you'll have to take. But you should let him know, it's only fair.

Don't Let It Ruin Your Friendship

The guy that I fell in love with at 14 isn't in my life anymore. Hopefully, you'll have better luck than me. Talk to Andre. Whatever he says, let him know that you don't want anything to ruin your friendship with him. You'll regret it SO much if you do.

Love can be a beautiful thing, even at 14. But you know what? Friendship is even better, more luminnous, and eternal. :)

Good luck!
