Dear Like 2 B Happy,
I think your question is really interesting.
Construction Is Male-Dominated
It's hard for me to imagine working in construction, which from
what I know is an extremely male-dominated field. At the same time,
it must be hard for your husband to imagine your office environment
and everything that goes along with it.
Having Lunch with Them Is Normal and Appropriate
Your having lunch with the hiring manager seems completely normal
and appropriate to me, and I think it would to most people who have
worked in an office environment.
Not Jealousy, But Misunderstanding
It sounds like you aren't having problems with recurring jealousy.
I think this is more of a misunderstanding you need to have
a bridge between these very different worlds. It is very important
to your success to be able to network, and sometimes that means
going to lunch with someone of the opposite sex.
Take Him To Your Workplace
My suggestion is to have a "Take Your Husband to Work"
day. It doesn't really have to be the whole day, though. Maybe he
could come in to meet you for lunch he could come early and
you could show him around and introduce him to people. He might
feel better if he could put faces with names. (And it wouldn't be
a bad idea for him to see a nice picture of himself on your desk!)
